A concept prop design project for gothic horror movie Crimson Peak (2015) directed by Guillermo del Toro. This is a movie I have loved for a while, and I thought would be the perfect project to delve into the world of prop design. I read through the movie script and highlighted potential designs and decided on the final 6, creating a cohesive bundle that are all related to the character of Edith Sharpe.

APPROACH
The film is set in 1900, requiring me to complete a lot of research into the design styles of the time period so I could create something accurate but slightly embellished so the designs would be interesting for viewers. I compiled together common elements found in each design and began the development process. The final props include a newspaper article, a handwritten letter, a steamship ticket, an envelope from Germany (with a post stamp), and an opium derivative bottom label. I used Vaseline along the edges of the designs to make it look although they had been handled by various people and I used tea to age the letter and envelope.
